Through a thorough and comprehensive assessment I identify the appropriate level of care for my clients to best meet their needs, taking into account their access to insurance, funding and availability. I provide individual and couples counseling, case management, resource identification and support to help them find their way into recovery.

Motivational and harm reduction counseling is available for those still using drugs and alcohol as yet unwilling or unable to commit to total abstinence. I also help my clients understand and navigate the mind-boggling and often very frustrating publicly funded system.

I also work with those who are dealing with issues not involving chemical dependency or addiction, and refer to other providers in the community if they are beyond my level of expertise and training.

Some of my clients are court involved, on probation, dealing with a difficult divorce and/or child custody issues. I advocate with judges, liaise with attorneys, probation officers, guardian ad litems and other professional providers. I provide progress reports, help my clients follow through on court, or other requirements, conduct urinalysis tests as needed and ensure my client is on track, in compliance and following through with all that is required.

Motivational counseling and life coaching is offered for those having difficulty identifying and attaining their goals, which can include case management, resource identification and collaboration with other professionals in the community.

Recovery from Addiction… What it Takes

Published by admin on June 6, 2010

Drug addiction is rampant, everyone’s off to rehab at any given opportunity or treatment, for their chemical dependency, alcoholism, drug addiction, gambling, shopping, sex, whatever it may be. Some come by intervention, some through referrals, many have done individual counseling but find they just can’t stay clean and sober without more support and opt to go to a treatment facility – sometimes inpatient, sometimes outpatient.

There’s a lot more to not drinking that not drinking or being abstinent and being clean doesn’t mean necessarily that you are in recovery; What do you get when you sober up a horse thief? A sober horse thief, sober yes, but still a horse thief. Clients need ongoing support when they are discharged from treatment and go to after care or relapse prevention so they can stay focused, use the skills they’ve learned and begin to meet new people who they relate to but who don’t use drugs and alcohol. Some say addiction is a disease and they are powerless; others object to this approach and don’t accept that it is a disease, that it’s more of a choice, a decision one makes to use or not to use; either way, it is crippling our culture because just about everyone is addicted to something.

The biggest example that is currently rocking the world is the addiction to money, greed, millions of dollars for many, is apparently, not enough, is never enough, and many lose their lives, their families and their freedom in the process. Sounds, looks, feels like addiction to me. Some clients also need case management in addition to counseling and treatment. Some need help coordinating with their doctors, psychiatrists and other care providers. Addiction is a big beast and defeats many; but in this case, surrender is where the strength lies; all it takes is being willing to go to any lengths to stay clean and sober one day at a time.
